What special burial benefits are available to veterans?
An honorably discharged veteran is entitled to a headstone.
The upright marble form of these monuments can be seen in
National Veteran's Cemeteries such as Arlington National Cemetery.
They also come in a bronze plaque or flat marble that can
be used in cemeteries and/or memorial gardens in our area.
The choice is dependent upon the cemetery rules and regulations
as to what type of monument is allowed.
Gary Jackson,
a Haley-McGinnis Funeral Director, belongs to American Legion
James L. Yates Post # 9 and fills the position of Service
Officer for the Daviess County area. In this capacity, he
assists veterans and widows of veterans in obtaining Veteran's
Benefits. Widows can often qualify for a Widow's Pension or
a burial benefit, or veterans may just need help with a Veteran's
Administration Hospital referral. Whatever the need, before
or after a death has occurred, Gary can help with any VA question
or situation.

Military Funerals are available only to those who die during
active duty or who are retired from a specific branch of service.
For all other Honorably Discharge Veterans, the U.S. Government
will send a representative from your loved one's branch of
service, if requested on a 24-hour notice. We will contact
the proper branch of service that serves our area on your
behalf, if your request includes a military service.
