Fred Lattus, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. The son of the late John and Pauline Lattus. He was a retired veteran of the Navy Armed Forces. He was employed as a barge deckhand on the river. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Sorgho Knights of Columbus for 43 years, and a past member of fleet reserve. He enjoyed playing pinnacle, bridge, fixing rosaries and reminiscing about his younger years. He also was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Lattus; a son, Ben (Becky) Lattus of Owensboro; a daughter, Janet Combs; six grandchildren; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Prayers will be said 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
