Jean McCarty, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Owensboro Center. She was born in Daviess County, on June 8, 1928, to the late Henry M. Beavin and Bessie Mattingly Beavin. She was a housewife, a member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed square dancing, playing canasta, being active in church, especially as a lector. She was also preceded in death by her husband Paul I. McCarty; a son, John A. McCarty; and two daughters, Rebecca McCarty and Paula M. McCarty. She is survived by her two sons Gregory (Cynthia) McCarty of Washington, Ind. and Kenny (Theresa) McCarty of Owensboro; one daughter, Rachel (Kenneth) Jones of Bowling Green; nine grandchildren, Fr. Josh McCarty, Sr. Martina McCarty, Justin McCarty, Anna (Josh) O’Connor, Becca McCarty, Katie Kelly, Kendall McCarty, and Kolton and Konnor Jones; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Braylon McCarty and Mila O’Connor. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Josh McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Sts. Joseph & Paul Haiti Mission Fund, 609 E 4th Street, Owensboro, KY 42303 or Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
