S. Lewis Guthrie, Jr., age 88, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, December 30th, 2013, at St. Paul Hospital, Dallas, Texas. He was born August 4, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late S. Lewis and Aimee Talbott Guthrie of Bardstown where he grew up. After officer training at Berea College, he served as Ensign in the Navy during World War II. He later graduated from U of L and worked for the IRS. In 1957 he moved his family to Owensboro, Ky where he was a founding partner of the CPA firm Clemens, Guthrie and Wurth. He served on the Board of First Security Bank and on the Board of Green River Mine Trust. He was also a valued financial advisor to family and friends. In 2006, to be closer to family, he moved to Dallas where he lived until his death. Affectionately called “Dadboo” by his family, Lewis was a respected, loving, and generous man. He was preceded in death by Bettie Gordon Guthrie, his wife of 51 years. Lewis is survived by one son, S. Lewis “Trip” Guthrie III (Carole) of Franklin, Tennessee; three daughters, Donna Guthrie (Larry Oliverson) of Sullivan, Wisconsin, Virginia Guthrie and Rebecca Guthrie (Steve Spradlin) of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Emily Farrell (Walt), Sarah Beth Hadzor (Tom), Samuel Spradlin, and Elizabeth Spradlin. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7:30 pm and Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6:30 pm Friday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Brad Whistle officiating, followed by final resting in Resurrection Cemetery. Lewis's family requests that memorial gifts take the form of donations to the Guthrie Opportunity Foundation, 713 N. 3rd Street, Bardstown, Kentucky 40004. Share your photos and memories of S.
