Rita Day, 80 of Owensboro passed away on September 7, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born February 21, 1934 in Friedrichshafen, Germany to the late Mathias and Maria Haas Leute. She was retired from River Valley Behavioral Health as intake coordinator. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Professional Woman’s Club of Owensboro. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dixie Day, 1986; a sister, Irmgard Petras and a brother, Rudy Leute. Surviving are her children, daughters, Rosemarie (Dale) Carraway and Sandra (David) Schweisthal both of Owensboro and one son, David (Rose) Day of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Steven (Amy) Carraway, Kristina (Eric) Stiff, Matthew Carraway, Michal Carraway, Kelly Schweisthal, Ryan Day and Victoria Day; six great-grandchildren, Evelyn Carraway, Carter Carraway, Samantha Carney, Chris Carney, Patrick Carney and Henry Stiff. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Thursday. Visitation at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church from 9:00 to 9:45am. Friday. Prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home Father Brad Whistle will officiate. Inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery. The family requests that expression of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
