Stanford Embrey, 94, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at home. He was born July 24, 1918 in Horse Branch, Kentucky to the late Abram and Ada Arnold Embrey. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Plumbers Pipefitters Local 502/633 for 65 years. He was an avid bird hunter until late in his life, and loved attending the car auctions seeking transportation for his children and grandchildren. After he retired, he became the supreme bargain hunter at the “Jot ’em Down” stores, but most of all he enjoyed family gatherings. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife of 50 years, Alice Embrey in 1997; four brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Elizabeth Embrey; his children Stanette (Ben) Blair, Sharon (Jim) Reid, Barbara (Jim) Barr, Janice Embrey, and Gregg Embrey all of Owensboro, Steve Embrey of Louisiana, and Mark (Jennifer) Embrey of Mississippi; Stepchildren, Moretta (Ken) Bosley, Suzanne (Earl) Hodskins, Selma (Arnie) Weisenberg, Karen (Paul) Payne, Mike (Kathy) Turner, Focient (Linda) Turner, David (Elvie) Turner, and Jeff Turner all of Owensboro and surrounding areas; 28 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Tuesday July 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Reed, Kentucky with the Reverend Fideles Levri officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis and Owensboro Funeral Home with prayers being said at 6:30 p.m. Visitation after 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Tuesday.
