Elias Stefanopoulos, 81 of Owensboro passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born on July 31, 1935 in Athens, Greece to the late John and Caliope Bati Stefanopoulos. He came to Owensboro in 1970. He was a member of Greek Orthodox Church. Mr Stefanopoulos retired from Aleris in 1998 after 27 years. He was an intense lover of nature and raised quail and other game birds. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Stella Sklavounos. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Judy Westerfield Stefanopoulos; his children, Christa Stefanopoulos(Craig Morris), Nicholas Stefanopoulos(Stacey) all of Owensboro and Maria Jaworski(Bryan) of Versailles, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Stella. His brothers, Jimmy Stefanopoulos and Fotis Stefanopoulos and one sister, Arhonto Lycantzis. Services will be at 2:00 pm. Thursday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Wednesday and from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Thursday at the funeral home. Prayers will be at 6;30 pm. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at St. Mary of the Woods in Whitesville, Ky. The family requests that expression of sympathy be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, Kentucky 42301-9989. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
