John “Wayne” Blakeman, 76, of Caneyville, passed away Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018 at the Beaver Dam Nursing Home. He was born on Monday, May 5th, 1941 in Louisville, the son of the late Raleigh and Beulah (Tomlinson) Blakeman. Wayne was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Millwood and taught Sunday School for 25 years. He served in the United States Army as a gun smith and a postal worker. Wayne was stationed at the Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. He retired from the Ford Motor Company. Wayne is survived by his wife of more than 51 years, Bennie Blakeman; one daughter, Tammy Blakeman of Caneyville; one brother, Bruce Blakeman of Bergen, KY; one sister, Jennie Morrison of Louisville; three granddaughters, Hannah Blakeman of Elizabethtown; Marissa Blakeman of Louisville and Kayla Bennett (Kyle) of Leitchfield; three brothers-in-law, Donald Woosley (Virginia), Mike Woosley (Beth) and Rudy Woosley (Phyllis) all of Caneyville; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Huff and Reva Pharris both of Caneyville and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Tim Blakeman. Funeral services will be Friday, January 26th at 1:00 pm at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro George Langdon will be officiating. Burial will be in the Kelly Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Thursday after 2:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am until time of service.

  1. Bennie, so sorry for the passing of Wayne. It is hard to believe a big strong man as Wayne was stricken down. But it is so comfornting to believe he is in the most beautiful home. Remembering you and your family in prayer.
