Lonnie Swift, 89, of Caneyville, passed away Sunday, April 2nd, 2017 at the Grayson Manor Nursing Home. He was born on Monday, December 5th, 1927 in Butler County, the son of the late William McKinley and Myrtle (Ingram) Swift. Lonnie was a member of the Caneyville Church of Christ and was an elder in the church. He owned and operated several local businesses, was the Sherriff for four years and served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Swift of Caneyville; one son, Nathan Swift (Greta) of Williamsburg, KY and one brother, Roger Swift of Louisville. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Forest Swift and Archie Swift and three sisters, Ruby Cooper, Cuba Bryant and Bonnie Goodman.Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Jarrod Jacobs will be officiating with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Tuesday after 5:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am until time of service.

  1. We are saddened by Lonnie’s passing. He was a good man that wore many ‘hats’ during his lifetime and excelled in his endeavors. Prayers for the family.

  2. We have many good memories of our days at Caneyville and Lonnie was a part of those memories. In the day when teachers had to go to work in the summer, Lonnie gave Jack a job and he was not just the boss, he was our friend. Evelyn, so sorry for your loss.
