Marlene Embry, 64, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on Dec. 10, 1952, in Evansville, Indiana to the late James and Anna Lyons Newton. She was a homemaker.
Marlene was a member of Garden Green Baptist Church.
Marlene had a great love for animals. She loved to spend time with her family, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Embry; a sister, Marcia Morris; and a brother, Arthur Newton
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ira Embry, Jr.; mother, Jackie Newton; two sons, Ira (Samantha) Embry, III and Greg Embry both of Owensboro; six daughters, Debbie Clark, Donna (Greg) Clark, Shelby Embry, Melanie Embry, Treyci (Nathan) Hatfield, all of Owensboro, and Paula (Chris) Armbrust of Utica; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Greg (Mary) Newton, Cary (Angie) Newton, and Mike Newton all of Owensboro; three sisters, Mary Payne and Sherry Embry both of Owensboro, and Nora (James) Embry of Stanley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Garden Green Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Roseville Cemetery in Hancock County. The family of Mrs. Embry will welcome family and friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory.

I remember seeing her snap beans and make a stew in a cauldron like pot out in the yard and I remember it was the best I’d ever had. She was a very kind , funny and yet very generous
