Opal (Embry) Burden, 94, of Louisville and formerly of Caneyville, passed away Saturday, April, 14th, 2018 at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. She was born on Wednesday, April 9th, 1924 in Butler County, the daughter of the late Vannie and Mary Lizabeth (Brooks) Embry. Opal was a member of the Rockford Lane Church of Christ. She retired from the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. Opal is survived by her son, Erbie Phelps (Ginny) of Louisville; two grandsons, David Phelps (Diane) of Sellersburg, IN and Dean Phelps (Jennifer) of Louisville; one granddaughter, Melissa Phelps of Louisville; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Phelps and ten brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 17th at 1:00 pm CST at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Jarrod Jacobs will be officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Union Cemetery in Butler County. Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Tuesday after 10:00 am CST until time of service.
