Rick Kamuf, 65, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on May 10, 1951, in Daviess County to the late William Richard and Kathleen Garst Kamuf. Rick was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, and had served as a Board member of Western KY Botanical Gardens, Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporation, Owensboro Catholic Schools, Rural Life Committee Chairman and Board member, Agricultural Water Quality Authority, Western Kentucky Growers Coop., Daviess County Farm Bureau, Owensboro Daviess Co. Grain Day, Daviess County Extension Committee, St. Martin’s Men’s Club, and was a Five Year State Championship Coach for the Special Olympics. Rick enjoyed farming and volunteering in the community to make a difference in the lives of others. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Rachael Kamuf. He is survived by his loving soulmate of 15 years, Cindy Taylor; five step-children, Cathryn Taylor of Louisville, Leah Mae Taylor, Melanie Coomes, Tony Coomes all of Owensboro, and Christie Conner of Grayville, Illinois; six grandchildren; Meghan Dickinson, Kayla and Caden Coomes, Mason Richard, Camden Willis and Kamiah Adams; five brothers, Paul Kamuf, Ronnie (Kay) Kamuf, Rob (Jane) Kamuf, Roger (Susan) Kamuf, Randy (Lisa) Kamuf, all of Owensboro; four sisters, Rose (Earl) Hayden of Owensboro, Becky (Bob) Swoyer of Greenville, S.C., Nancy (Jeff) Jones and Rita (Marty) Jacobs both of Owensboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family of Mr. Kamuf will welcome friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Prayers will be said Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Daniel Pitino Shelter, 501 Walnut Street, Owensboro, KY 42301, Owensboro Catholic School System, 1524 W. Parrish Avenue, Owensboro, KY 42301 and Special Olympics of Daviess County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
