Tom Dant, 85, of Owensboro passed away on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Thomas was born June 4, 1933, in McLean County to the late Stephen V. Dant and Nezzie Keown Dant. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church He enjoyed farming, working on lawnmowers, but most of all he loved to talk, especially with his family and friends. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Dant in 1990; three brothers, Herman, Gene, and Thurman Dant; and three sisters, Wilma Muffett, Stella Brown, and Thelma Bullington. He is survived by five sons, Joseph (Judy) Dant of Curdsville, David (Linda) Dant of Owensboro, Richard Dant of Hood River, Oregon, Mike Dant of Georgetown, and Scott (Liz) Dant of La Grange; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Dant, Albert (Barbara) Dant, and Charles (Sarah Ann) Dant; two sisters, Pearl Douthitt and Louise Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his good friend and caretaker, Alma Fogle. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Alphonsus Church Building Fund, 7925 Highway 500, KY-56, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
